What is Holistic Nutrition?
According to Merriam-Webster, the term "holistic" means "relating to or concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts" (http://www.merriam-webster.com/medical/holistic). Holistic Nutrition is NOT dieting, counting calories or obsessing over fat grams!
Our nourishment is affected not just by the foods we eat, but by how much sleep we get, our daily activities, stress levels, and what we do for fun. What does the "big picture" of your life look like?

Whole Foods
When we move toward health from a holistic point of view, it is natural to gravitate to foods which support optimal energy. Not sure what those might be? Well, there are no pyramids involved! Additionally, what works on "my plate" may not be what is best for your plate. Part of the fun of this path is taking the time to find which foods fuel you best. Whole foods -- vegetables, fruits, whole grains, naturally raised meats, seafood, eggs, nuts, and seeds -- bring living nutrition, healthy fats, and filling fiber which keep our systems running strong. In addition, when we feed ourselves REAL FOOD, cravings dissipate and we become more satisfied and balanced. Health issues may begin to fade. Energy levels rise. Your best fuel mixture could be any combination of whole foods, and together, we will find what works best for you.
Move That Body!
Believe it or not, the human body naturally craves movement. If you have pets in your life, what do they do when they wake up from a nap? They stretch. They move. They look for activity. Our bodies are the same. Sometimes we just forget!
The key here is to do something you enjoy, so it's a fun, sustainable activity. Dance, yoga, a game of basketball or golf can be great options. Even a ten-minute walk every day can help keep blood sugar levels stable and contribute to better circulation.

Manage Stress and Enjoy Life
Did you know stress creates toxins in our bodies that can lead to hormone havoc and weight gain? It has also been shown to decrease nutrient absorption, raise cholesterol and lead to high blood pressure. Often, just finding a way to bring more pleasure into our lives can bring many of these issues into balance.
Get Your Rest
Adequate sleep at the right times not only makes us feel more rested but helps keep our appetites and weight under control. Good sleep means fewer cravings!
